Join Gunnersbury’s curator Julia Tubman and local archivist Dr. Jonathan Oates for two talks about the First World War and the local area.

‘Celebrating the End of the First World War’ – Dr Jonathan Oates, Ealing Local Studies Archivist The celebrations in Britain marking the end of World War Two are well known but those for the end of the First World War are less known. This talk looks at how the earlier Allied victory was marked in the locality.
‘Collecting Under Fire: Soldier-Scholars and the First World War’ – Julia Tubman, Curator at Gunnersbury Park Museum Gunnersbury Park Museum’s archaeological collections benefit greatly from the contributions of Major Frederick Sadler and Reverend Samuel Gentle-Cackett. How did these extraordinary men manage to continue their scholarly pursuits whilst serving abroad during the First World War and how did it influence their interests?

On the evening of the talk, we will also have the UK Armenians and WWI ‘Testimonies of War’ exhibition on display which will be loaned to us by the Centre for Armenian Information and Advice.
