NHS Equalities Objectives Workshops

The eight NHS clinical commissioning groups (CCG) in North West London (Ealing, Harrow, Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham, Hillingdon, Brent, Kensington & Chelsea, City of Westminster)  are producing equality objectives and commissioning plans for the next four years. The development and updating of Equality Objectives (EO) and Equality Delivery System (EDS), in consultation with communities of need, is a statutory obligation designed to help CCGs commission and deliver the right services and reduce health inequalities.

CCG are gathering people’s views to inform their new equality objectives through an online survey. The Mental Health Equality Campaign members are of the opinion that putting out an online survey is not an appropriate and meaningful way to reach people with mental health support needs from Black, Asian and Minority, Ethnic and Refugee (BAMER) communities. Many of our community members have mental health support needs, English is not their first language and other aspects like poverty, stigma and culture also intersect to mean this survey excludes the community.

We are therefore inviting North West London based people from BAMER backgrounds with mental health support needs, BAMER community organisations, local councilors, CCG, staff from the West London Mental Health Trust and local authority staff to a consultation meeting addressing mental health inequality for people from BAMER backgrounds. We are providing a safe space for people to voice their concerns about mental health access and share their needs and ideas to improve BAMER mental health in North West London.

We will provide a quite space for people to turn to if needed, mental health outreach workers will be available to speak to, and interpreters who speak community languages will support community members who need interpretation. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
